How to choose the right Artificial plant for you
So, you have decided to buy an artificial plant. Great! You can check out our previous blogs on the many reasons why faux plants are tremendous but for now, let’s focus on how to choose the right plant for you. At the ArtificialPlantCompany.com.au, we understand that choosing the right plant is kind of a big deal. After all, these quality artificial plants are going to be with you for a long time. Our team has put together some helpful tips to ensure that you have all the information you need to choose the perfect plant for you home, office or special place.
Tip 1. Space
This tip may sound simple but deciding where to put your plant will determine pretty much everything else you need to consider when selecting it. We firmly believe that you should have selected where you are going to put your plant, before you select it. Having said that, here are some things to consider when deciding where to place your new artificial plant:
- Don’t squeeze something in a small space. Plants will always look better if they have some room around them.
- Keep a minimum of 15cm between your plant and any surrounding furniture. This “gap” will ensure that your plant looks considered, rather than looking like it is taking over your armchair.
- Consider air circulation. Even faux plants are subject to many of the pitfalls of real plants including excessive moisture which can lead to mould and deterioration of the plant’s foliage
- Consider how much light you have in the space. A bright room can take a darker, thicker plant while a dark space will benefit from bright, lighter foliage.
Tip 2. Size
One of the biggest mistakes that we see here at the ArtificialPlantCompany.com.au is that our customers sometimes choose the wrong size plant to fit the space. Size is one o the most critical considerations for the design of any space. Choosing the wrong size plant is kind of like choosing a gigantic sofa in a tiny space. Here are some great rules for selecting the size of an artificial plant for your space.
- Floor planters should be taller, while table plants should be shorter
- Consider how often you want to move the plant because bigger also equals heavier
- Is the plant the focal point of the room or just an accent? A focal point can be larger, with more dense foliage while an accent piece often benefits from lighter more spaced foliage.
- Always consider the dimensions of the other furniture around your plant. Don’t place a 2-meter palm tree next to a child chair and don’t place a dwarf pine below a 4-meter ceiling.
Tip 3. Quantity
This tip is probably the most overlooked that we see here at the ArtificialPlantCompany.com.au. To create a truly authentic look, it is often important to consider how your potential faux plants grows in nature. If you love the look of bamboo, then consider a bamboo grove. Bamboo never grows as an individual plant and you will be shocked how much more realistic three to four bamboo trees look together.
Similarly, if you love the topiary look, then consider two pants opposite each other to provide the architectural vibe that these types of plants are so often used for.
Tip 4. Context
The environment in which you are planning to use your artificial trees, plants or flowers is also critical to creating a genuine look. If you are planning to get married in formal garden setting or building, then consider topiaries and hedges, whose architectural lines will complement the structure.
Alternatively, if you are planning on getting married on the beach and are looking for some standout pieces for the wedding stage then consider a couple of palm trees on either side, tress that belong in that environment.
Getting the space, size, quantity and context right will ensure that guests to your home, office or special occasion are spending less time trying to figure out if the trees, plants or flower are faux and spending more time enjoying the vibe of the environment you have created.
